Every restaurant that opened up in this location over the past 10 years has failed miserably. Tricky spot given that you have to walk down a few steps into a dark space. Uncle Boons might be the one that actually makes it. Kitchy, campy, quirky spot with excellent food. Pedigree chefs and friendly service in a fun atmosphere. Tables are a little cramped but décore makes up for the lack of space. One of their signature drinks is beer slushy, so you know it’s going to be a little party. They tell you what’s spicy (the lamb, curries, green chili sauces) and what’s not (ribs/ chicken/ prawns), but everything is tasty and great for sharing. Baked Alaska with sparklers (tell them it’s your birthday even when not) is a great way to end the meal! Wash it all down with pitchers of beer / wine and take two Advil before bed and you’re good to go. Unpretentious and fun little spot, and nice addition to the neighborhood. Was packed on a steamy Tuesday night.
