It’s a rare ‘perfect storm’ moment in our DineGirl world when food and film collide. Opening August 8 is “The Hundred-Foot Journey”. Helen Mirren is Madame Mallory, the owner of a Michelin-starred restaurant in the sleepy village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val. Across the street, an Indian family relocates from India and opens “Maison Mumbai”. You can only imagine the rivalry, culture classes and all out food fights that will ensue between these unlikely neighbors. Apparently the actors Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon trained briefly under New York chef Floyd Cardoz, de-boning fish and learning other basic culinary techniques adding authenticity to the scenes. Just watching the trailer is making us hungry! Too bad there isn’t a ‘dine as you watch’ button so we could actually taste the food as well! (hint to Nitehawk cinema…)
We recommend not seeing this film on an empty stomach, or atleast make sure to have dinner plans straight afterwards to get your French + Indian foodie fix. (Check out North End Grill or Tamarind)
