When we first heard that the little West Village bookshop Bonnie Slotnick’s was closing, our first reaction was shock and sadness (another gem lost to the corporate mall-ification machine that is the West Village…!) Bonnie’s bookshop was one of our go-to spots for procuring vintage cookery books and a source of many dinegirl-ideating sessions. Thankfully, unlike most New York City fairytales, this one has a happy ending!

She’s happily relocated to the East Village, and we’re excited to see the new shop’s potential. (There’s even talk of her book designer / printer friend hosting little workshops in her store.) The cookery fairy godmother has waved her magic rolling pin! Yes you can always do the ‘ol download / app route, but there’s something special and magical about picking up some vintage books with the odd tomato sauce stain or shopping list tucked inside…
